Butta On...Jill Scott Sighting!

Last night I kicked the new year off right by seeing Eric Roberson in concert in Philadelphia at World Cafe Live. Great show as per usual, but the biggest highlight of the night was seeing Jill Scott afterward in the lobby. I had a sneaking suspicion that Jilly from Philly was gonna be in the house because Erro's opening act was none other then CHINAHBLAC who is one of Jill's current background singers.

Lo and behold, after the concert my sista in soul, Vivrant Thang, came to get me while I was chatting with another sista in soul, Sweetlocs, who I finally met in person for the first time, to tell me that Jill was there! So I wrapped things up with Sweets and proceeded to step into the lobby area. Vivrant discreetly pointed in the direction of where Jill was, but I couldn't spot her for the life of me. I was there looking for the on-stage version of Jill complete with big hair, full makeup and a funky-glam outfit. I was looking hard, y'all, and was like 'where is she??' while giving Vivrant the side-eye. LOL

Then I saw her. It was the smile that gave her away. Jill was dressed down in a black coat, jeans and a hat that covered her lovely locks, but you could spot that radiant smile a country mile away. She looked like she was having a chill time chatting with her peeps after the show and there were a few people hovering about trying to get autographs, photos and what not. At the moment that I was trying to figure out how to approach, Erro came out from the backstage area and my focus turned to him. Vivrant and I dapped him up for another fantastic show, and, of course, I had to get my photo op in:

See Jill in the background? OK, maybe that's not the best photo to see Jilly but after Erro finished chatting with us he went over to speak to her and I managed to get some candid flicks while they were talking:

Not the best photos, but, hey, I never said I was a photographer. Seconds later Jill left the lobby so I didn't get a chance to meet her or take a photo with her myself. Insert sad face here. But I was just happy to have been within feet of such an amazing woman.

As much as I would have loved to hang around some more after the show, Vivrant and I did have a two-hour drive home ahead of us so we bid farewell to World Cafe Live and walked to the car. As we sat in the whip warming it up, who do we see walking to their car but Jill and a friend! I just had to say something this time since I missed my opportunity inside. I decided against jumping out of the car and running up on her and professing my love. That might not have gone over very well. So instead I rolled down the window and right as she passed by the car I said "Hi Jill! Love your music! We'll be seeing you in March!" (Yeah, I turned into a total fan, but this is Jill Scott we're talking about her. I love she!) Vivrant said a few words as well and Jill smiled that smile again, waved, and gave us a thumbs up as she kept walking. That fleeting moment was enough for me for now. Seeing Jill was definitely the cherry on top of a wonderful night.
