If you visited SoulBounce.com or JillScott.com over the weekend, then you may have seen some videos of Jill Scott in concert shot by none other than yours truly on both sites. It's no secret that I posted it on the Bounce, but imagine my surprise when I went to Jill's site last night and saw my little videos on there in all their bootleg glory.
A little back story about the videos: I saw Jill in early November at the Bailey's Get Together concert series in Baltimore at Rams Head Live. The event was free, but you had RSVP to Baileys and even then you weren't guaranteed admission. Going into the event, myconcert road dawg, Vivrant Thang, and I knew that it was either gonna be hit or miss driving to Bmore that night. Luckily for us it was a hit, and, after standing in line outside in the cold for half an hour, we got in only to stand inside waiting for another hour. (The things you do for the love of Jill Scott, I tell you.) There were drink samples courtesy of Baileys, a very entertaining dancing photographer and a DJ playing a litany of old school jams.
That was all well and good, but everyone came there to bask in the glory of Jill. And when she finally took to the stage, that's precisely what we did. She looked fantastic and sounded even better. She eased back and forth between her new material and old favorites, and the audience sang every song right along with her. We thought that Jill was only going to do a handful of songs since it was a free show and all, but she gave us a bonafide almost two-hour set. She kicked booty up there.
And I would have loved to show you evidence, but the camera nazis were out in full effect at the show. You couldn't even take a camera phone picture before they pounced on you to tell you to put your stuff away. So even though I was in prime position up front and had my equipment handy, no dice. But I enjoyed the concert regardless of not being about to bring any of it home with me, though. Well, up until that point, that is.
So after Jill's encore, we walked out of the first door to leave. By the time we passed by the second door she was back on stage. Needless to say, we stepped back in to see what was going on. Instead of going back up front, we posted up behind the sound and lighting boards. And after a quick glance around we saw that there were no camera nazis in the general vicinity. Woo hoo! Our cameras came out with the quickness but on the sneak tip, of course. And that's when I shot the videos below. My cam was hidden so I couldn't see what I was filming half the time and it's quite evident once you peep the videos. But despite the video itself being janky, you can hear Jill quite clearly and she sounds awesome. I didn't catch the name of the song but by the time you finish watching part two below, you'll be singing right along.
Jill Scott will be going on her real concert tour in 2008 and tickets are on sale now for various locations across the country. I strongly urge you to go see her when she comes to your city. She is truly the real thing in stereo (and video if you can get it).
That is the HOTNESS! And I'm glad you commented so you could get your props. You are THE QUEEN of You Tube. I just wish that they wouldn't have been acting so stank so you could have captured more of the show.
