My apologies that it has taken me forever and a day to write about my Idris Elba experience, but I've been hovering somewhere around Cloud 9 since last Saturday. Y'all see my big old Kool Aid smile in my photo with him. Do you even need to ask?
At any rate, I had an opportunity to interview Idris that evening prior to his concert with Eric Roberson later that night. I had previously communicated with him before on MySpace and made a mention of his music project on Vibe Confidential a few months ago. So although this was our first face-to-face meeting, we weren't strangers. Nonetheless, I really didn't know what to expect. He coulda been cool as hell or he coulda been on some I-think-I'm-all-that celebrity BS. Well, I am happy to say that he was the former and not the latter.
I was already at the location waiting for him and his people to arrive and getting my questions together when they came in. Idris showed me love from the door. He greeted me with a big hug like we knew each other forever. Then once we started conversing he was so down to earth and wasn't the least bit arrogant or stuck on himself. This sista was shocked and awed.
And, ladies, he is absolutely breathtaking in person. Photos do him no justice at all. I have to be honest, prior to meeting him I thought that he was attractive, but I wasn't all head over heels in lust like 99.7% of the women I know. Man, by the time the interview was over I was caught up in the rapture. The combination of his attitude, his accent, his face, his height, his body, his skin tone, his intensity, and his passion for music damn near made me have an out of body experience. I know that he was sitting in front of a sunshine-filled window when we were talking, but I coulda sworn I saw his aura glowing around him. Yeah, it was that deep.
Once the interview wrapped I got my photo op and a goodbye hug. I played it cool and waited until I got to my car to have a conniption fit. I couldn't wait to get home and post a blog with the flicks. And little did I know at that time that there was more in store.
When I got to the 930 Club I managed to secure a spot smack dab in front of the stage. DJ Driis was already spinning as the crowd was filing in. I don't think people realized that it was actually him DJing at first until he started talking. That's when folks perked up and paid attention.
I was standing there taking some notes when the next thing I know, Driis saw me and gave me a shout out! Gasp. Swoon. Rinse. Repeat. By the time the night was over he gave me two more shout outs, and I was beside myself. Between Idris showing me all that love and Eric Roberson putting on one of the best shows I've ever seen him do, this was the best time I've had in a long time. Last Saturday was just what the doctor ordered.
And you know me, what would a recap of the evening be without visuals. Here is some footage that I got of DJ Driis spinning. The lighting was poor but, trust me, it's all him.
Driis took the opportunity to step from behind the turntables every now and then to entice the ladies in the audience....um, I mean, work the crowd. DJ Shogun held it down on the one's and two's while Idris did his thing. In this video he is cutting up while E.U.'s "Da Butt" is playing in the background.
Idris + Doin' Da Butt = Melted Butta
I managed to get my third shout out from Driis caught on tape. He threw up the deuce, and I was right there eating it up with the biggest spoon in town. Peep my graphics game in the clip, y'all.
Butta, I'm trying my best to be your friend, but the closer you keep steppin' to my future husband Idris, the closer you keep steppin' to getting shanked.
Good Lord! Almost too much to handle. Since I'm in DC, I don't know whether to find you and cut you or be your friend so I can go to the next party! *lol* Seriously though, it seems like ya'll had a great time! Good to hear that his personality matches his sexy!
ok I'm posting about this!
Thank you so much for sharing this. Sorry I missed the concert.
Take care.
